If you are looking for a REPLACEMENT SOCKETS electrician in Liverpool or Warrington then I can definitely help you. There are a number of reasons why you may wish to have your sockets replaced and I am here to help.
Broken Sockets
Electrical accessories like sockets and switches are not designed to last forever and they will eventually fail. When they do fail, they can either stop working or can develop electrical faults that cause overheating, short circuits and tripping of switches or blowing of fuses.
Broken sockets that have suffered mechanical damage are very unsafe and should be replaced by a professional electrician as soon as possible. When the front of sockets break, they are likely to cause access to live electrical parts introducing a danger in your home. These items should be replaced immediately to prevent electric shock or injury.
Old and discoloured sockets
As plastics age they can discolour becoming yellow or brown as they are affected by UV light. They can also become brittle making them prone to shattering and cracking. The discolouration itself can be unsightly and in most cases, this is enough for most of our customers to want them swapped out for new ones.
It’s possible that all the sockets in your Liverpool or Warrington home no longer match as they have been replaced over the years and this is aesthetically wrong.
Can any new sockets be fitted?
In most cases, most new plug sockets can be fitted where old ones where previously. The exception being “flat plate” style accessories that are incredibly thin and are designed to sit flat to the wall with no protrusion. These accessories are notorious for causing problems when installed incorrectly.
Most “flat plate” accessories require a deeper box behind in order to safely sit and work correctly. On many occasions I have been called to emergencies where power to the house has been lost and the culprit is a flat plate accessory that has crushed wires behind due to poor or incorrect installation! ☹
Does that mean I can’t have chrome sockets?
No not at all. There are many sockets on the market that are metal, chrome stainless steel and so on that are able to be installed safely into existing electrical systems. It is best to consult with your electrician to see what is possible for your electrical installation and their recommendations for decent products. Often, an electrician can source better quality products from an electrical wholesaler rather than national chains etc.
Can you add EXTRA sockets at the same time as swapping them?
That depends greatly upon how up to date your electrical system is. The wiring regulations stipulate that we must ensure the electrical system is in good condition, safe to extend and compliant with the regulations. Unless your property was constructed or rewired in the last few years, it is likely that some updates may need to be made in order to bring it up to current standards.
Your electrician may ask for a photograph of your consumer unit before being able to provide a quote or an estimate, this is so they can judge the age of the consumer unit and see what, if any, replacement parts may be needed in order to bring the installation up to standard.
How much does it cost?
Every job is different and if you would like a quote for your project then this can be done quickly in most cases with some extra information from you via WhatsApp.
I am always happy to quote jobs in person where possible and practicable although online is often quicker. 😊
How long does it take?
Generally, most small jobs (replacement socket, new light fitting) can be fitted in to my diary quickly within a week and larger jobs may require a slightly longer wait. If you are at all unsure then please contact me as soon as possible so I can discuss your requirements with you.
Can I replace sockets myself?
It is unsafe to carry out work on electrical installations unless you are a qualified electrician. There are few electrical jobs that can be carried out on a DIY basis as most electrical works requires specific testing and certification in order to comply with the wiring regulations and ensure the safety of the installation. DIY enthusiasts often do not have the correct equipment or knowledge of electrical systems to safely carry out electrical work and certify it. Some things are just not worth trying yourself. 😊
If, however, you have had a DIY disaster, please do call and I will do my best to put it right. Its best to admit defeat and call a professional rather than have a dangerous situation in your home.
